CINEMA AND SANCTUARY Now Available On DVD
Fresh from its NYC Premiere at Lincoln Center, “Cinema and Sanctuary – Hans Richter and America’s First Documentary Film School” has just been added to our website Store Page. Conceived in 1941, The Institute of Film Techniques at the City College was ahead of its time. Under the direction of iconic experimental filmmaker and German expat, Hans Richter, its mandate was to train Americans to make documentaries to counter Nazi screen propaganda.
Under Richter’s defiant leadership the Institute prevailed for several years in an age in which film production was not considered worthy of study on college campuses. Graduates of the institute range from Oscar-winners to the bold cinema artists of 1960s of The New American Cinema Movement.
“Cinema and Sanctuary” will have its next NYC theatrical screening on March 16th, 2020 at The Center for Jewish Studies in Manhattan.
